FROM MEASUREMENTS TO MATERIALS

A DIY tote rack build plan you can make your own.

A fixed set of storage rack plans may not fit the bins you already own. Tote Rack Studio calculates your rack from your chosen tote size and layout, so you can plan garage, basement, or workshop storage before buying lumber.

01 / SIZE

Custom rack dimensions

Set up rows and columns around your storage needs. Check the overall width, height, and depth against the space where your rack will go.

02 / CUT

Lumber cut list & shopping list

Get calculated cut lengths and quantities, plus a materials breakdown for your design. Review stock requirements before your trip to the hardware store.

03 / BUILD

Diagrams & assembly guidance

Explore your rack in the interactive viewer and use the assembly breakdown to understand how the pieces fit together. Print your plan for the workshop.

27-GALLON TOTES & CUSTOM SIZES

Plan around the totes you actually use.

Looking for 27-gallon tote storage rack plans? Start with a preset, including the HDX 27-gallon tote, or enter your own dimensions. The calculator also includes other tote sizes.

Measure your actual bin before finalizing the plan. Capacity alone does not determine fit: tote width, depth, height, and the lip that rests on the rails all matter. Leave room in front of the rack to slide bins out.

BEFORE YOU CUT

How to plan a sliding tote storage rack.

  1. Measure the bins and your space.

Record your tote dimensions and lip measurements. Check the available floor space, ceiling height, and clearance for removing bins.

  2. Configure your rack.

Open the calculator, create a new rack project, choose a tote preset or custom measurements, and adjust the layout. Review the dimensions and diagrams.

  3. Review and print the plan.

Check the cut list, shopping list, assembly guidance, and any stock warnings. Use the print option to print your plan or save it as a PDF through your browser.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Tote rack build plan FAQs

Are these downloadable tote rack plans?

The calculator creates a plan from your rack configuration. Use its print option to print the build plan or choose “Save as PDF” in your browser’s print dialog. The plan includes calculated cut lists and assembly information for your design.

Can I make plans for 27-gallon storage totes?

Yes. Choose a 27-gallon tote preset and verify its measurements against your bins. Different brands and models can have different dimensions even when their gallon capacity is the same.

How does a sliding tote rack work?

A sliding tote rack supports each tote by its lip on a pair of rails. That lets you pull out a bin without unstacking the bins above it. Check that your tote’s lip is suitable for this style of support.

Do I need an account to create a build plan?

No. You can create local projects without signing in. They are saved in this browser on this device. Create an account if you want to save projects across devices.

Does the calculator provide a load rating?

No. A calculated layout and cut list are not a verified load rating. Capacity depends on the totes, lumber, fasteners, joinery, and installation. Review your materials and installation before loading the finished rack.
